Pray for Peace

As stated in our focus on this year’s Essential Element, Vancouver College celebrates the value and dignity of each person created in the image and likeness of God. As a result, we were horrified by the terrorist attack waged by Hamas on innocent people. Our community is fully aligned with the recent message from our spiritual leader, Archbishop Michael Miller.

Litigation Update
Vancouver College is devoted to addressing the litigation brought forward by a VC alumnus alleging abuse by a former staff member between 1976 and 2013, with the lawsuit's recent Class Action certification in March 2023.
 
Our current emphasis is on the mediation process as we continue to work towards true healing and peace. A crucial initial step involves reaching out to potential class action members and providing them with the Class Action Notice. On August 25, we initiated this outreach by disseminating the comprehensive Long Form Notice of Certification through email and mail to those enrolled at Vancouver College from 1976 to 2013, as per our records.

Farewell to our last teaching Christian Brother

Not only did we mark the conclusion of our year-long 100th-anniversary celebrations with our special Thanksgiving Mass this month, but we also marked the end of an era last week when we bid farewell to our last teaching Christian Brother, Br. Charles Gattone. A heartfelt sendoff took place at the end of Br. Gattone's last class after 53 years of teaching. Staff and students from all grade levels formed a line that stretched from his classroom, through the hallways, across the courtyard, and into Lannon Hall.
